About Connie Corzilius

IMG_9184_edited_edited.jpg

Connie Corzilius is curious about many things, but devoted to only a few: writing, dogs, reading, dogs, books, dogs.

Also dogs.

A Pushcart and Million Writers nominee, her fiction (and a smattering of poetry) has been published in many literary magazines, including Another Chicago Magazine, Beloit Fiction Journal, Tusculum Review, CALYX, Jewish Fiction Journal, Mississippi Review, Tulip Tree Review, Bodega Magazine, Twelve Winters, Stonecoast Review, small spiral notebook, Storyglossia, Willow Review, and Big Muddy, among others. She also has a strange little story forthcoming in Mystery Tribune.

In the previous century, she earned an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, but she tries not to think about that too much. Over the years, she has worked as a bookseller, a staff writer, a copywriter, a medical editor, and a grant writer. If it's poorly remunerated and involves words, she’s on it.

Born and raised in Granite City, Illinois, a steel town across the Mississippi from Saint Louis, she has lived for the past 20 years in Augusta, Georgia with her husband, Mark Spasser, their two daughters, now grown, and a procession of neurotic-but-fabulous dogs, currently a droll pitbull named Mel Nippleman. Her experiences  as a Midwesterner transplanted to the Deep South often inform her work, as do themes of toxic religion, reclaimed power, and revenge.

She's currently working on a novel.
